There were a number of cars that we’ve been excitedly anticipating the release of this year and the Aston Martin Vanquish Vison is perhaps our favourite of the pack. There’s still a lot of mystery around the new model but we’ve rounded up what we know so far for you.
Who Are Aston Martin?
First though, we wanted to give you a little more information about the brand favoured by James Bond, Jason Statham and F1 drivers alike.
Aston Martin is a luxury British sports car manufacturer known around the world for producing some of the most iconic models on the road.
The company came from humble origins, beginning in a small London workshop over 100 years ago in 1913 but its founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford had a vision for creating beautiful cars that stands to this day.
Martin and Bamford both loved the motor car and enjoyed racing them, and it was this appreciation for the workings and performance as well as the styling that prompted them to hand build cars that could push even faster whilst still retaining a high level of comfort and look more beautiful than any others on the market.
The brand’s name evolved from a single driving event when Lionel Martin drove over the Aston Clinton Hill Climb and won the race in their latest vehicle. This racing prowess and performance are embodied in every one of the sports cars that they’ve produced since then, as well as all of the cars they’ve created for the F1 and racing circuits around the world.
The Aston Martin Vanquish
The Vanquish moniker first appeared in 2001 and that model remained in production, with a few updates until 2007 when the company stopped producing it to focus on other models like the DBS.
It then reappeared again in 2012 and was in production for another six years until 2018 before production was again ceased.
The Vanquish of the early 00’s was designed to be as lightweight as possible with a carbon fibre and aluminium chassis with a V12 engine that offered up to 460 horsepower for fast acceleration, high speeds and a unique driving experience.
It was a popular model and there wasn’t a large decline in sales so it was surprising when Aston Martin discontinued it in 2008 to many drivers’ disappointment. The vocal complaints over missing the Vanquish saw it return in 2012, essentially the same vehicle though a little longer and wider with a more aerodynamic design.
What Do We Know About the Vanquish Vision?
This year Aston Martin plan to revitalise the Vanquish with the brand new Vanquish Vision. The concept model was originally debuted at the 89th Geneva Motor Show and is due to go into production this year.
It’s a mid-engine supercar with a twin-turbocharged version of the company’s new V6 engine that was first seen in the RB 003. This powerful engine puts it in line with the Ferrari F8 Tributo and McLaren 720S, making it a direct competitor to Italian manufacturers who dominate the market.
Unlike most Aston Martin models it will not have a carbon fibre construction but a bespoke aluminium chassis for a super lightweight car. It’s got clean sweeping lines and an exterior that is comfortingly recognisable as an Aston Martin but with a modern twist.
The vehicle is expected to go on sale this year with customers taking delivery in 2023. No prices have yet been released but we expect it to be within the £200,000 - £350,000 range.
