The Mitsubishi Motors Corporation are a relatively new entry into the automotive market, having started out producing cars under the Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in 1917, as part of the colossal Mitsubishi Group. The newly specialised motoring manufacturer was officially formed in 1970 and is now part of the co-ownership consortium, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
Mitsubishi have become synonymous with off-roading, since their late 90’s success of the World Rally Championship and their consistent dominance of the famously gruelling cross-desert race, the Dakar Rally. This is in no small part to the performance of the Lancer, with its 10 iconic Evolution (“Evo”) descendants being firm favourites on the road from beginning to the end of the line in 2016.
Mitsubishi have used this off-road pedigree to produce some of the best utility vehicles that are suitable for everyday use. The current line-up consists of one of the most recognisable pickup trucks in the UK market, the L200 and the practical Outlander range. Alongside these reliable work-horses is the mainstay ASX crossover SUV and the titanic road tank, the Shogun. Mitsubishi have also added style to their substance with the new Eclipse Cross SUV and city-friendly Mirage hatchback.
