Since the first Land Rover Discovery was launched over 30 years ago it has become a common sight on UK roads.
Today’s model is a seven-seater with five star Euro NCAP safety rating making it an ideal choice if you’re looking for a family SUV with a luxury finish.
The body shape of a Discovery hasn’t massively changed over the years, though of course there have been modernisations with the redesigned LED headlights and the most recent model has a lower and wider stance for better handling and road presence.
On the interior, there’s an uncluttered dash with minimal buttons in the central control panel as well as a touchscreen infotainment and navigation centre.
The Discovery is available in currently six different trims including the Discovery S, Discovery R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE, R-Dynamix HSE, Commercial SE and Commercial HSE.

While the Land Rover Discovery and the Discovery Sport are similar in that they’re both luxury SUVs, there are some differences to be aware of if you’re deciding between the two. Interior-wise, the 2022 Discovery comes with more features as standard, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, leather seats, Blind Spot Monitor and Cross Traffic Alert, all of which are optional extras in the Discovery Sport.
More cargo space is available in the Land Rover Discovery. Performance-wise, the Discovery out-matches the Discovery Sport in almost every category. The Discovery has a larger towing capacity, a higher hp engine as standard and it also shaves 0.5 seconds off the Discovery Sport’s 0-60 acceleration time (6.9 seconds vs. 7.4).
However, the Discovery Sport is more affordable, so if you’re looking for a solid, luxury SUV that suits your budget, it could be a great choice for you.
As a seven-seater with a third row of seats in place, the Land Rover Discovery offers 258 litres of boot space. As a 5-seater without the third row of seats, boot space increases to 1,137 litres.
