Monday marks the start of the annual Road Safety Week and we wanted to let you know all about it.

What is Road Safety Week?

Road Safety Week is an annual road safety event that occurs in the third week of November across the UK.

It is run by road safety charity Brake and thousands of schools, businesses and community groups get involved in the week to help prompt better road safety for all road users not just drivers.

Previous years have focused on increasing awareness of bicycles and pedestrians on the roads, speeding and other driver focused concerns.

This year the theme is Road Safety Heroes!

Brake are the UK’s leading road safety organisation. They have been operating since 1995 with the aim of preventing road deaths and injuries and so they regularly campaign for safer measures. Alongside this, the charity also supports those who have been affected by road accidents and their loved ones.

Road Safety Heroes

This year Road Safety Week focuses on raising awareness of those who work to improve road safety conditions for all users across the UK road network. This includes road safety campaigners, professionals, individuals, and organisations who have played a role in keeping our roads safe.

The campaign will also raise awareness of how we can all be heroic and play our part in keeping roads safe.

How to Get Involved in Road Safety Week

There are a number of ways that you can get involved in Road Safety Week including:

  • Social media posts on who your road safety heroes are and how they keep the roads safe – as a video, quick message or any form you like
  • You can send an image and details of why your road hero is a hero to news@brake.org.uk for them to appear in the Road Safety Week Hall of Fame
  • You can publish a blog or send one into the Road Safety website about their role and how they’re promoting safe travel
  • Celebrate internally in your company with a meeting or a company-wide email
  • Join the Safe Tee Day on the 19th of November and wear your brightest t-shirts and share photos of the team in them to highlight the importance of being seen while on the road
  • Fundraising for Brake – Safe Tea Days and bake sakes for the team at work
