A Year with Julia's House

Supporting Our Local Community

For the past year, Wessex Fleet have been working alongside a local charity that helps care for children with terminal illnesses and their families.

Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, located in Devizes, Wiltshire is a charity that we felt we could fully support; with most of the Wessex Fleet family having young families of their own.

It all started with the Directors and the Events Committee getting in touch with the team at Julia’s House to ask how we could help. We then sent our Local Support Team up to see the facilities and offer our help.

Over the year, we have arranged and participated in a range of fun activities and fundraising events… mostly to exercise our delight at dressing up (some more than others – see if you can spot the most enthusiastic cosplayer in the office).

We worked with some of our industry partners, through our many connections with vehicle suppliers and finance companies. Through the Enterprise Holdings Foundation, we managed to procure an amazing £1,500 for Julia’s House.

One event that will stand out for me, possibly forever, was the 24 Hour Gaming Marathon. Four team members, as well as a few more at home, joined together to play the highly-anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 for 24 hours – no sleep, no breaks (other than to stretch your legs) and NO COFFEE… I’m still sad about that. It was a strangely wonderful experience, with many ups and downs – those of you who are familiar with sleep deprivation will understand.

We’ve also shown our support in more low-key ways, such as a Cake & Bake Sale, donating a race day to their Winter Ball fundraising auction and a “Wessex Flee Market”, where team members brought in assorted items that colleagues could ‘purchase’, with all money going towards Julia’s House.

Our year has been rounded off with a trip to the Julia’s House Sibling’s Ball, an annual event that the Children’s Hospice runs to provide some much-needed fun for the families, where the children and their siblings can just focus on being children.

We were able to take a few luxury cars for the children to explore, sit in and have their photos taken.

Thank you to the generosity of Salisbury AudiSnows Lexus and Johnsons Fleet Services for lending us the Audi A8, Lexus LC500 and Volkswagen Touareg respectively.

The story doesn’t end there as we have much more planned for the future, as we are determined to continue supporting this magnificent charity, in any way we can.
